Swindon Brass is a Fourth section band formed in 1982. located in the Swindon area in Wiltshire.

28/01/07 - Vacant Positions: bass trombone
We are currently seeking a bass trombone player,
preferably before our forthcoming contest in March.
We would, of course, welcome new members for other positions in the band especially tenor horn, B flat bass or trombone.
10/12/06 - Congratulations to the band for coming 3rd at the Wessex Contest competing against 6 other bands in the 1st Section, even beating a chanpionship band. Hard work does pay off :-)
24/03/06 - The band came 9th out of 26 bands this year at the Regional finals, which was a good result. However the band was a little disappointed as if we would have come two positions higher we would have won promotion to the 3rd Section, as we were joint 1st with A W Parker (Drybrook) on points for promotion. 7/01/06 - Happy new year, Wishing goodbye and good luck to Alun Battrick who has moved to Melksham to start a new job. Also have updated the forth coming engagements for 2006
4/12/05 - Congratulations to the Band for winning the 2nd Section down at Weymouth. The band played well on the day and was rewarded with 1st place gaining a trophy and a cheque for £100's the test piece the band had to play was 'The New World Symphony' by Dvorak. 4/12/05 - The band's annual Christmas Concert is nearly here it is on the 17th of December at Purton Village Hall Starts at 7.00p.m. every one is invited cost is only £4's for Adults and £2 for Children featuring St. Mary's School Choir who are also participating.
10/10/05 - New brass band website called Brass band Stuff and is maintained by Maria Fricker who has guested for us on Percussion you can see her in the picture above
25/09/05 - Unfortunately our trip to the National finals wasn't as successful as we would have liked. We came 19th a bit disappointing. You can read a description of the 4th section bands performances here
19/09/05 - Only a few days and the band is off to compete in the national finals in Harrogate - Good luck to all players
19/09/05 - Have added a few pics from our successful trip to Germany in August. We were well received in Luxembourg with a report in the local paper from a woman who had moved there from Swindon and wrote into the paper to say how good the concert was.
18/05/05 - Fundraising is going well we currently have £2000 pounds towards the cost of going to Harrogate, thank you all our supporters in helping us achieve the target. As you can see the picture the band has changed at the request of some of our members.
12/04/05 - Fundraising for Harrogate 2005 In Sept 205 we shall be representing Swindon and the South-West of England at the National Finals in
Harrogate. This is a fantastic opportunity for the band and for our musical director Fran Cowley. The trip will cost the band in excess of £3000 so we are fund-raising in earnest. If you would like to book us for your local event ( fete, wedding,

14/03/05 - Success! The band came 2nd the West of England Regional Finals at Torquay on Saturday, this means the band will be going to the National Finals in Harrogate in September. We will be competing to see who will be Great Britains best 4th Section Band. Fran Cowley our Conductor was pleased with the result as this was his 56th consecutive year at the regional finals. 08/03/05 - The Victorian Band stand in Swindons Town gardens is in need of restoration and requires donations for this. An article in the Evening Advertiser about this can be found here.

05/12/04 - Our Outing to Weymouth Contest was a success competing in the 2nd Section we came 2nd out of 4 bands taking part, we now have a bit of silver ware for Fran to polish :-).
05/12/04 - Janet Kelly who is one of our baritone players is doing a sponsored walk in China to raise money for the National Autistic Society has made it into the website 4barsrest.com here is a link to the news item
17/08/04 - Our tour to Germany was a great Success which was well received, the band played in 3 different venues Briedel Wine Festival, Bern Kastel and Trierer. Everybody enjoyed it and there are plans to go back next year.
20/6/04 - Janet Kelly on of our players is planning to do a sponsored walk along the Great Wall of China next in aide of The National Autistic Society next May and is looking for sponsors, Janet has a website if your interested in sponsoring her.

2/12/01 - WE WON!. The 3rd Section, at the Wessex association winter competion down in Poole. Against 6 other bands our First win!
30/10/01 - Have finally changed the band picture with our new jackets on. For those that will be there Sunday at the Wyvern on the 4th November to be there for rehersal at 1.30p.m.
